The members of Smiley Bishop & Porter LLP have developed special expertise and recognition in the areas of civil litigation and alternative dispute resolution, with particular emphasis on the arbitration of securities disputes before the NYSE and the NASD.
Members of the Firm have previously practiced together at Page & Bacek and Gard Smiley Bishop & Porter LLP. Through the years, these lawyers have gained a national reputation for the successful representation of investors with claims against brokerage firms and financial advisors. Several of those cases have been the subject of articles in the national press. Lawyers from the Firm have also represented individuals from the securities industry in regulatory investigations, arbitrations and civil rights controversies, including age, race and gender discrimination disputes, as well as disputes over compensation issues and restrictive covenants.
In addition to these areas of practice, the Firm has been involved in cases involving mortgage fraud, truth-in-lending, other consumer credit related litigation, restrictive employment covenants, disputes related to ownership and management of closely held corporations, tender offer litigation, as well as general business and contract litigation.
Attorneys from the Firm routinely practice throughout the United States and are often associated as co-counsel to assist other attorneys who wish to benefit from the Firm’s experience in arbitration and litigation.
Members of the Firm are frequent lecturers on legal maters, having spoken at seminars sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Practicing Law Institute, the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association (PIABA), the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the North American Securities Administration Association, and the National Association of Securities Dealers. Members of the Firm have also published numerous articles in prestigious legal publications.
